See how digital photography and RAW photo processing work
Digital camera sensor pictures the World in a different way than we might expect.
There is quite a complicated process between taking a raw image and outputting a finished photo.
All digital cameras, from laptop web cameras to the state of the art iPhone cameras or professional DSLR's, start processing pics from the raw images following one of the standard color filter patters.
RAW Experience app simulates different color filter patterns, including:
- Bayer color filter — used in iPhone, as well as in the most of modern digital cameras,
- Quad Bayer color filter — used in iPhone 14 Pro main 48MP camera,
- X-Trans color filter — used in Fujifilm digital cameras,
- RYYB color filter — one of the latest developments, used in some recent smartphone models.
The app also allows to see the results of a simple demosaicing process which averages the raw image pixel colors into a full-color picture.
